South Cambie was named after CPR engineer Henry Cambie and was once home to elk, loggers, ranchers and Chinese vegetable gardeners. Today as yesterday, Queen Elizabeth Park (aka Little Mountain) is a volcanic formation with an elevation of 127 metres making this the highest point in Vancouver and offers a 360-degree view of the city. This site was once mined for granitic basalts and is now home to Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Floral Conservatory. The Conservatory has a large geodesic dome and is home to exotic birds, a variety of fish and a large indoor tropical garden. This area is known for its abundance of medical facilities; BC Children’s Hospital, BC Women’s Hospital and Health Care Centre, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre, and Canadian Blood Services.

South Cambie has the Oakridge Centre just across its northern border, Langara Golf Course, walking and jogging trails serve as a nature border on the east side of South Cambie, Cambie Park on the western border of South Cambie and Langara College to the north border of South Cambie.
